His ancestors and siblings
George Hamilton was born in Colleton County, South Carolina on September 18, 1888.  His father, Friday Hamilton, was born a slave and was 53 years old when George, was born.  His mother, Henrietta Broten (Broughten) was a mulatto woman.   He had two brothers and two sisters.  By age age 50, George was completely blind due to glaucoma.  He died on April 1, 1961 in the Bronx, New York at age 72 and is buried in Hartsdale, New York at Ferncliff Cemetery.

Her ancestors and siblings
Mabel Elizabeth Summerville  was born on January 18, 1894 in Henderson, North Carolina.  Her father was Jim Summerville and her mother was Nancy Mae Cheatham. She had two sisters and a brother.  At age 56 she died suddenly of a cerebral hemmorage.  She was buried in her hometown of Henderson at Blacknall Cemetery.

George and Mabel married in North Carolina (1912?). According to census reports, they lived in North Carolina briefly (daughter, Zaida, was born), moved to New York (before 1915) and returned to North Carolina where  two more daughters (Cleo and Georgia) were born.   By 1925, the family was in the Bronx, New York permanently where they lived with three sons and four daughters.   By 1932, they had ten living children together.  Two (Georgia and Myrtle) had died in early childhood.
